pole lathe demonstration broom making demonstration pipe maker toys for heritage festivals

Museum and Heritage Festival Demonstrations,
I have more than fourteen years experience  of presenting “Living History”  resources both to school students and the public in  schools, at  Heritage festivals and Living  History museums  in  and around the  greater Auckland area. It has been my experience that the public likes to see traditional crafts demonstrated and participate in presentations.  I am a traditional craft presenter:   Besom (broom) making,  the pole lathe and clay tobacco pipe making. For children, I give presentations on butter making. My  'Victorian Toy'  activity is particularly popular. Original artifacts are shown in the 'Food for thought' presentation an activity which adults to enjoy. If you feel my services would benefit your organisation please contact me to discuss  a visit.

Testimonials

I have known Richard Lees for over twenty years. He was Education Co-ordinator at the Howick Historical Village. He was also a member of our village volunteers who performed activities on the monthly Live Days for our visitors. Richard showed exceptional craft skills backed by careful intensive research into the use of a pole lathe, tinder box method of producing fire, the making of clay pipes and the construction of besom brooms. The finished products were of outstanding quality and workmanship. He continues with these crafts and is now able to sell these quality craft objects.

Alan La Roche MBE
former Foundation  Director Howick Historical Village
