An Interactive Resource for Education
and Living History.
Auckland, New Zealand.
Striking
a Spark for our Pioneer Past.
Tinder Box
is an interactive education resource for
Schools, Historical Houses and Museums; that supports
the Social Studies and Technology curriculums in New Zealand
schools. The
Tinder Box Outreach programme, a school
visit resource, is curriculum based. The presenters
deliver ‘Living History’ through interactive activities in Victorian
costume to students: Victorian
Toys, Food for
Thought (original artifacts),
Pioneer Transport and Butter Making.
The Tinder Box Historical
House and Museum resource, in addition to the interactive
activities available to schools, provides demonstrations
of crafts such as Drop
Spinning, Besom broom making,
Clay Pipe Making, Re-enactment clay pipe store, and
Fire Making with a flint and striker.
(Visit Activities
for a full list of services offered.)

New page for recently added information
We bring pioneer past times, crafts
and a knowledge of day to day living not only
into schools, but also Historical Houses and Museums
within 150 kms of Auckland.
No
matter which craft: besom brooms or tent pegs being made
on a shave horse, clay pipes made in a mould on a gin press,
yarn being spun on a drop spindle, butter made in a churn, or flame
created from flint and steel; Tinder Box offers the opportunity
for children and adults to observe - and participate in the experience
if they so choose; to see their Victorian heritage through original
artifacts, discuss their day to day use and see the past come to
life through the practical hands on experience of knowledgeable
presenters.
Tinder Box can add life
to your historical occasion, whether it be a curriculum
based school study, anniversary or centennial celebration.
