Frequently Asked Questions
I can't find any prices
How many Activities do we have to have?
Students numbers per activity
Money: What happens if we want to add more students
on the day of the visits?
Money: What happens if we have students away
on the day of the visit?
Question:
I cant find any prices. How do
I find out how much it costs for a visit?
Answer: Unlike venues where you and your students travel to the venue
(and the travel component is a separate cost), Tinder Box comes to
you and your students in your school, bringing the resource with us. The
economic viability of providing the service varies with every visit
Tinder box prices will vary depending upon:
- the
distance we have to travel to your venue,
- the
time it takes to get to your school
- the number of students for whom the Tinder
Box programme is required.
When considering a Tinder Box visit, it
is necessary to either send the information request form, or, telephone us: (09) 576 5796, 021 117 2068.
Question: Do you
come and do all the activities or can we choose one or two?
Answer: You can select one or a combination of the activities.
You may wish to provide students of different year
groups with different activities. This is quite possible and usually
a matter of scheduling.
We bring the relevant resources and can change activities during
your visit. We are a two person team, presenting two activities
at once, in different locations, with groups moving between activities
at the end of each session. We can change activities
for different year groups.
Question: Is there a limit or
minimum number of children required for each activity session?
Answer: There is no limit to
the minimum number of children per activity session. The maximum number per
activity would be 30. As a general rule it is best to have between
20 and 30 students per session, but 15 is acceptable and provides a
good interactive unit. Some activities are best with the lower figure
i.e. Food for Thought - the show and tell activity with original artifacts.
This is a question and answer activity and too many children can
reduce the effectiveness of the presentation. The Toy activity however, works
well with up to 30 children. For uniform presentation
within a school, it is generally best to have groups of approximately equal
size.
Question:
What happens if we want to add more children on the day. Is there an increased fee if we add
more students?
Answer: When I arrive, advise
us of the number of additional students and - provided it is possible
to fit additional sessions into the time frame - we can work together to
adjust the activity schedule.
Additional Students to the number quoted for at the time of booking
will incur an additional fee.
Question: If students are absent on the day of the
visit will the fee be reduced?
Though your school may choose to
calculate the quoted fee as a cost per student for the purposes
of collecting the fee for the visit, if students are absent
on the day of the visit, the full quoted fee is the amount
payable.
The costs of providing the Tinder Box service to schools
(transport provision/ running costs, insurance, costuming, resource production
and purchase, equipment maintenance, office overhead etc.) are all recouped
through our fee. The fee quoted at the time of booking for the
students for whom the service is requested, is the minimum
fee at which we provide the Tinder Box service.
